BSPAR integration announced

The British Society for Rheumatology (BSR) and British Society for Paediatric and Adolescent Rheumatology (BSPAR) have formally announced their integration at BSR’s Spring conference, Rheumatology 2015.

This union of the organisations brings together the clinical voices for adult and children’s rheumatology in the UK and will further strengthen the society's ability to support its members and the services they provide to patients.

BSR President, Professor Simon Bowman said:

"This is an important step for Rheumatology and our Society as we can now provide leadership across the entire age range of children and adults with rheumatic and musculoskeletal disorders."

BSPAR President, Dr Clarissa Pilkington said:

"Bringing the two societies together will enable much greater influence at national and local level particularly around the challenges for patients moving from children to adult services."

paediatric musculoskeletal matters - pmm

A new e-resource targeted at medical students and primary care doctors in the first instance, with the content and format informed by research and opinion from child health, primary care and learners in the various user groups.

The content is basic essentials of clinical assessment (pGALS, pREMS) and key knowledge about normal development, key conditions to know about in paediatric rheumatology and orthopaedics, when to be concerned (red flags), investigations and referral advice.

There are cases, video demos of pGALS / pREMS, many "top tips" and links to resources and other websites.

Feedback is welcome with an e-survey built into the site. The key messages are very transferable to other clinicians including paediatricians, adult rheumatologists and doctors working in orthopaedics and accident and emergency.
